The Young Marine Distinguished Order of Merit (DOM) is the highest award a Young Marine or a Registered Adult can earn. This award is intended to recognize those who have demonstrated, through their superlative example, the values we consider worthy of special recognition. The DOM is intended for those senior Young Marines who have committed themselves to the ideals of the Young Marine program. Where they have reached a point in their Young Marine careers where a final level of achievement is made through a process reserved for those special few who have excelled to a higher level.

Congratulations to YM SgtMaj Behringer on her achievement!

We will be starting our next recruit series in April.  We will be having an informational meeting on Wednesday 30 March 2011 at 1830 (6:30pm) at 4th Combat Engineer Battalion Marine Reserve Center (7000 Hamlet Avenue Baltimore, MD 21234).  At that meeting, perspective recruits will receive all the necessary paperwork, costs, dates, etc that they will need to know.
 
Please make sure that you pass this information on to your family and friends.  There is an Outstanding Recruiter Ribbon available for the Young Marine who has 5 recruits join this class and they must graduate..........in order to be eligible for this ribbon, the recruits must tell Mrs Behringer which Young Marine is responsible for them joining.

Operation Purple® camps offer a free week of summer fun for military kids with parents who have been, are currently, or will be deployed. This year, 100 weeks of camps will be held at 62 locations in 37 states and territories. Campers from all service branches will gather together to experience a memorable week of fun and adventure with a focus on learning coping skills to better deal with a parent's deployment.

Junk on the Bunk for Tuesday February 9 is CANCELLED.
 
Junk on the Bunk will be Thursday February 11 from 5pm-7pm at 4th CEB.  All persons must attend with their gear.  If you have not turned in your permission slips or money, it is due that evening........NO EXCEPTIONS.
 
Travel arrangements for Friday and Sunday will be relayed to you at Junk on the Bunk. 
 
PARENTS......please do not drop your child at junk on the bunk with the intent of picking them up later.  They will only be there for a short period of time. 
 
CHANGES TO GEAR LIST:
In light of the massive amounts of snow, you are authorized to wear appropriate winter outwear and winter boots.  NO JUNGLE BOOTS ALLOWED.

HAMILTON YOUNG MARINES TO RAISE MONEY AT LEDO’S PIZZA IN WHITE MARSH FOR THE WOUNDED WARRIOR PROJECT HONORING AMERICA’S VETERANS

White Marsh, MD (Oct. 31, 2009) – The Hamilton Young Marines are hosting a Spirit Night a Ledo’s Pizza in White Marsh on Wednesday 11 November 2009 to raise money to be donated to the Wounded Warrior Project Honoring America’s Veterans. The event is scheduled for 5pm-10pm. 20% of the evenings receipts will be given to Hamilton Young Marines to donate to the Wounded Warrior Project. The public is invited to attend the event and have dinner with the Young Marines.

This event is part of the 9th Annual Young Marines Veterans Appreciation Week, sponsored by the Young Marines. Young Marine units throughout the nation are planning events in their local communities. The campaign is designed to give Young Marine members the opportunity to come together on a national level for a common cause, to honor our veterans.

“The purpose of the campaign is to challenge our Young Marines to dedicate some of their time to help our veterans and demonstrate, through their actions, their appreciation for our veterans’ service to our country,” said LtCol Mike Kessler, National Executive Director of the Young Marines.

 The nationwide campaign is being celebrated 7–15 November 2009.

The Young Marines is the U.S. Marine Corps’ official youth program to the Department of Defense for youth Drug Demand Reduction efforts. The Young Marines is a 501c(3), tax-exempt, youth educational organization. This event is coordinated by the Hamilton Young Marines in cooperation with Ledo’s Pizza of White Marsh.

Our next drill which is Saturday December 13 will be held from 1000-1400 at 4th CEB. That evening from 1800-2100 (6pm-9pm) will be celebrating Warriors Night a Marine Corp tradition. All Young Marines and their families and guests are invited.
Traditionally called Mess Night, it's purpose is to recognize and pay homage to the Marines who came before us.
The mess night is fashioned to fit a formal gathering with a military flavor present. A Marine is assigned to be president of the mess; he/she is in charge and controls the flow of events.
The vice-president of the mess, or 'Mr. Vice,' as the title has come to be known, acts as the enforcer of the president's decisions and also regulates who may speak to the president.
Invited guests are also part of the group. Conventionally, their place is at the head table with the president. The remainder of the participants make up the mess. They are the heart of the event, and are expected to pay fines as the president sees fit for issues brought up by the mess men.
During the formal meal portion of the mess night, members of the mess have the opportunity to charge another mess man with a fine if he has a legitimate reason to.
A mess member must stand at attention and ask Mr. Vice's permission to address the mess. Mr. Vice has the option to turn the request away or to forward it to the president. If the president grants permission, the mess member must state his case on why his comrade must be fined.
If the mess member makes a good case, the president fines the guilty party a certain amount that he sees fit, or forces the defendant to perform a show for the mess.
This has become an annual tradition for Hamilton Young Marines in lieu of a Holiday Party.
The cost for the meal is $10 per person. I will need to know before Saturday who will be attending and payment is due at drill.
This is an exceptionally fun time and I hope that all of you can attend.
